Visiting Orhaniye Out of Season
How about visiting Turkey when the tourists have gone and Orhaniye village life focuses on the olive harvest?
Help us to pick our olives in early-mid November. We can show you how to preserve them and you can take your own back to the UK. We can even arrange for you to take home your own extra virgin olive oil – pressed at Datca. Why stay with us? Orhaniye wildlife.
This is one of our favourite times of year. Many of the tourist restaurants and hotels have shut, but there are still plenty of places to eat within a short drive and it is a fantastic time to explore the peninsula. The weather isn’t always predictable – but is often better than an English summer, with temperatures up to the high ‘20’s (and down at night to around 6 to 14 degrees).
In April to June and September to October the weather is perfect for walking holidays, biking holidays, sailing holidays or horse riding holidays.
Alternatively what about a break in late Spring when the air is fresh, the peninsula is carpeted with wild flowers – and the fields are full of poppies? At this time of year there is expectation in the air – a new season about to start and you can see the village busily making ready for its Summer visitors. Again it is a great time to explore – you can get a tan whilst exploring roman ruins or little coves.
There are frogs in the pools and in the streams, and the kids and lambs that roam free sometimes have to be kept off from finding their way into the garden with a judicious spray of the hose.
